Jiwa Sculpture made of Teak Wood, approx. 140 × 70 cm
Jiwa – the Living Soul of Wood
“Jiwa” means "soul" in Indonesian – and this depth is reflected in this sculpture. It was crafted from a single piece of teak wood, transformed into a fascinating work of art through natural growth processes and careful craftsmanship. Teak wood is not only robust and durable but also tells stories – of the tree, of the rain, and of the light that fell through the roots.
The shapes of this unique piece were not created but revealed. The wood was gently sanded, brushed, and oiled without losing its natural identity. Slim and dynamic with open surfaces and curved lines, Jiwa brings movement and tranquility to every space.
Jiwa leads us back to ourselves – to what remains when all the superfluous disappears. It represents a quiet strength that supports.
This sculpture has an effect not only externally but especially internally.
It attracts glances magically, but it can do much more: It grounds, connects, and brings us back to a deeper level. Its natural imperfection reminds us of our own roots – where we come from, and that true stability arises from authenticity and not from perfection.
With a height of about 140 cm and a width of approximately 70 cm, the Jiwa Sculpture is more than decoration – it is a quiet, powerful companion. Whether in the living room, hallway, conservatory, or in a sheltered spot in the garden – Jiwa always unfolds its special effect.
A Natural Work of Art from Noble Teak Wood
Teak wood is among the most valuable woods in Southeast Asia. It is resilient, has an expressive grain, and is naturally oily. This makes it suitable for both outdoor use and furniture pieces that last for generations. For this sculpture, a teak root was used whole – without glue or joints, a true piece of natural power. Each specimen is unique and tells its own story.
In the workshops of North Bali, the roots are carefully cleaned by hand and only smoothed where functionally necessary. What remains is the authentic form of an organically grown body – sometimes powerfully wild, sometimes gently curved, always with a strong presence. The craftsmen choose each root thoughtfully and take their time to highlight its uniqueness. Nothing is added, only the superfluous is removed.
