Your Hand-Carved Wooden Bowl "Kerang" in Shell Shape
Solid yet surprisingly lightweight Albesia wood forms the basis for this artistic object. The deep, curved grooves, hand-carved into the soft wood, perfectly mimic the organic shape of a real shell. The surface finish, whether in a light white-washed look or a warm brown tone, highlights the fine grain and the traces of the carving work. Its shape is a tribute to the treasures of the ocean and gave it the name "Kerang" – the Indonesian word for shell. It is large enough to display your favorite fruits, but also serves as a decorative tray for keys, jewelry, or simply as a work of art in its own right.
The Whisper of the Wood
In the small villages around Ubud, away from the busy streets, woodcarvers sit on the porches of their homes. Before them lie blocks of Albesia wood, a material so light and soft that it feels almost like butter under the carving knife. It is a wood that invites dreaming. The master takes a block, turns it in his hands, and without a single drawn line, he begins to work. He follows no plan, but his intuition and what the wood whispers to him. With rhythmic, focused movements, a form that has existed in nature since time immemorial slowly emerges from the simple piece of wood – a perfect shell, brought to life through traditional craftsmanship.

Merchant Note
Kayon Artisan
Sari, a powerful woman just 1.50 meters tall, produces just outside Ubud, but has her sales room right in the center. Her shop is overflowing with Albesia and MDF works. Everything is not expensive, but still beautiful. We packed a few Buddha shoulders again – those things are simply bestsellers (or at least they have been so far). The name "Buddha shoulder" is quite strange, to be honest, it's actually just the head of a Buddha, but because you can still see the shoulders... well, Buddha shoulder.
Her face when she recognized us was worth gold, as she immediately granted us an instant discount, simply great! But the way there, 5 kilometers at a walking pace... The traffic in Ubud is always a test of patience and nerves.
Handmade Note
Each "Kerang" wooden bowl in shell shape is a hand-carved and finished unique piece. Slight variations in shape, size, and the intensity of the wash are traces of this loving craftsmanship and make each bowl a distinctive one-of-a-kind.
