The Gentle Giant – A Balinese Interpretation of the Giraffe
The giraffe, also known as Jerapah, impresses with its long neck and characteristic spots as a symbol of grace and foresight – even though it is not native to Indonesia. This special appearance inspires Balinese artisans to create unique creations. Our Jerapah Wall Mask captures the calm presence and elegant pattern of the giraffe and translates it into the traditional form language of Balinese wood carving. A piece of African magic, handcrafted with great attention to detail.
Traditional Balinese Carving Craft
Each Jerapah Wall Mask is made from carefully selected Albesia wood, known for its lightness. Experienced carvers shape the stylized head of the giraffe with traditional tools. The detailed painting is then done by hand: In warm earth and orange tones, the distinctive spot pattern of the giraffe is applied. Each brushstroke reflects precision and artistic sensitivity, making the mask come alive. This combination of traditional carving and loving painting makes each piece a special work of art.

Wulan Wood Carving is run by an experienced artist of about 60 years. The small family business is located on the road to Bali's largest rice field and is well visited despite its remote location. Unfortunately, there are no successors to continue the craft. The handcrafted masks and animal figures are of exceptional quality and expressiveness.
Handmade & Uniqueness
Each Jerapah Wall Mask is a purely handmade product. The natural wood material and traditional carving and painting techniques lead to small differences in color, shape, and pattern – a distinctive feature of genuine Balinese craftsmanship.
