Sinar Buddha, 65 cm – made of Suar Wood with Anjali Mudra
The Sinar Buddha is depicted sitting, hands folded in Anjali Mudra – a sign of reverence, connection, and inner calm. His gentle expression and upright posture radiate tranquility and stability. With a height of about 65 cm and its reddish-brown wood surface, this hand-carved figure is perfect as a harmonious focal point in living spaces, gardens, or meditation areas. Each statue is carefully handcrafted from Suar wood – a traditional Balinese artwork that combines spirituality and aesthetics.
The name Sinar comes from Indonesian and means “ray” or “light”. In Bali, this term symbolizes the quiet, inner light – awareness, mindfulness, and mental presence. Our Sinar Buddha figures embody these values and convey clarity and inner strength.
Carving Buddha figures in Bali is considered a spiritual practice: it creates not only an outer form but also an expression of inner depth. These Buddhas combine artisanal quality with profound symbolism – ideal as a meditation object, decorative element, or meaningful gift.
Made from Suar wood (Albizia saman), a fast-growing tropical wood with a dense structure and beautiful grain, the figures are created in several steps: First, the wood is roughly cut and dried, followed by detailed handwork including sanding and fine-tuning with special tools.
Buddhas in Bali – a quiet presence in everyday life
Although Bali is predominantly Hindu, representations of Buddha are widespread and are perceived as a harmonious complement to one's spirituality. In many Balinese temples, gardens, and courtyards, you can find serene Buddha figures placed under trees, next to water features, or on small altars. They symbolize universal values such as silence, insight, and inner balance and do not contradict the Hindu faith.
In Bali, Buddha statues are not worshipped as gods but are used as symbols for qualities such as peace, compassion, clarity, and enlightenment. Especially in combination with water – a sacred element on the island – they create places of reflection and calm that go far beyond mere decoration and invite you to pause consciously.
Balinese art brings this spiritual significance into a clear, earthbound form that is neither overloaded nor monumental. Each figure, whether made of wood, stone, or concrete, carries this quiet message within: Everything flows, everything clarifies, everything begins within you.

Dealer Note:
Serayu Craft is a special place with two neighboring shops that operate independently. Located directly across from the duck center, where numerous ducks are produced daily, the first shop offers a wide selection of wooden figures – from monkeys and hippos to Buddhas – although the owner is rather reserved. The second shop has a friendlier atmosphere, although communication usually happens with hands and feet. Here you will find unique glass tables with elephant or octopus feet as legs. Please note that this shop is often closed during lunchtime.
Handcraft Note
Each figure in the Sinar series is lovingly and patiently hand-carved in Balinese tradition. The individual wood grain, fine details, and small irregularities make each statue a unique work of art with its own soul.
