Sinar Buddha, 60 cm – handcrafted from Suar wood with the Mudra of Teaching
The Sinar Buddha measures 60 cm and has been lovingly carved from solid Suar wood. His right hand displays the Vitarka Mudra, a meaningful gesture of teaching and inner exchange. The thumb and index finger touch, symbolizing the transmission of wisdom and the pursuit of knowledge. The Buddha's face radiates gentleness, while his posture conveys calm and balance. The natural grain of the wood remains visible, making each statue a unique work of art.
The name Sinar comes from Indonesian and means “ray of light” or “brightness”. In Bali, it symbolizes not external splendor, but rather the quiet inner light – awareness, mindfulness, and spiritual presence. Our Sinar Buddha figures represent clarity and inner strength and are masterfully carved.
In Bali, the carving of Buddha figures is seen as a spiritual practice. It creates not only an external image but also an expression of inner attitude. These artworks combine traditional craftsmanship with profound symbolism – ideal as a meditation aid, decorative object, or meaningful gift.
The Buddha is made from Suar wood (Albizia saman), a fast-growing tropical wood with a dense structure and attractive grain. Each figure is crafted by hand in several steps: after drying the wood, rough cutting is done, followed by intricate carving, sanding, and final finishing with special tools.
Buddha Figures in Bali – Silence and Balance in Everyday Life
Although Bali is a Hindu-influenced island, representations of Buddha are widespread there. They are not foreign objects but rather a harmonious addition to local spirituality. In many gardens, temples, and courtyards, one can find Buddha figures resting in shady spots or next to water sources. They symbolize universal values such as inner peace, wisdom, and balance, without contradicting the Hindu pantheon.
In Bali, Buddha statues serve less for worship and more as symbols of qualities such as compassion, clarity, and enlightenment. Especially in combination with the sacred element of water, they create places of reflection and mindfulness that invite pause and rejuvenation.
Balinese art brings this spiritual significance into simple, expressive forms – not overloaded, but earthy and focused. Whether made of wood, stone, or concrete: each Buddha figure carries the message that everything is in flow, finds clarity, and begins within.

Note on Handicraft
Each Sinar Buddha statue is made with great care by hand in Bali. Wood carving is regarded not only as a craft but also as a spiritual practice. The natural grain of the Suar wood, fine tool marks, and small deviations in shape and expression are characteristic features of true handicraft. They give each figure its own character and make it a unique piece with a soul.
