In Balinese glass workshops, the glass is heated until it is liquid and moldable. Skilled artisans carefully let the molten glass flow over a selected natural root. The glass adapts in gentle waves to the unique shape of the wood and cools into a clear, elegant bowl.
The natural root forms a stable base, while the glass surface provides fascinating color tones with turquoise accents at the contact points. The combination of organic wood and transparent glass creates an exciting connection – a true work of art that unites natural beauty and masterful craftsmanship.

The Balinese Art of Melting Glass on Wood
In Bali, the interplay of nature and craftsmanship is deeply rooted – particularly visible in the melting of glass on root wood. Precise skill and years of experience are needed to ensure that the glass merges with the wood at the ideal temperature without damaging it.
In this sensitive moment, the hot glass flows around the root and permanently connects with it. The glass surface is then carefully ground and polished until it shines crystal clear. This creates a unique work of art that is incomparable in this form.
The natural roots used are selected according to special criteria: their natural grain, characteristic structures, and individual shapes make each piece a distinctive original.
