Pramana Table Lamp – An Artistically Designed Flower Chalice with Ikebana Flair
The Pramana table lamp made of
palm leaves combines natural materials with artisanal craftsmanship. Its name “Pramana,” which means “vitality” in Balinese, is reflected in the design, reminiscent of an artistically arranged
flower ensemble made of palm leaves. Inspired by the Japanese Ikebana tradition, it captures the serene beauty of Balinese nature.
The carefully selected palm leaves present themselves in a warm, glossy reddish-brown and form a vibrant, sculptural composition: longer, slender leaves reach upward, while shorter, broader leaves frame the center like protective petals. Dark, fine sticks add subtle vertical accents and give the lamp a delicate, natural grace reminiscent of an exclusive
dried flower arrangement.
At the center is a cream-colored sphere made of fine natural fibers. This is crafted using a traditional method: the threads are wrapped around a balloon coated with natural glue. After the glue dries, the balloon is removed, resulting in a lightweight, delicate light object that emits a warm, gentle light when illuminated.
The solid, round base made of dark wood, adorned with a subtle sisal band, ensures stability and emphasizes the lamp's natural character. The
Pramana table lamp is delivered without electrical equipment but features a hole in the base that allows for individual customization with suitable light sources and cables (max. 25 W).
Whether as a stylish eye-catcher on the sideboard, as atmospheric accent lighting on the shelf, or as natural decoration on the side table – the Pramana brings Balinese vitality and harmonious aesthetics into your home.
Material Origin – Palm Leaves from Bali
Palms are an integral part of the Balinese landscape and culture. They symbolize tropical life and permanence while providing diverse materials for everyday use and craftsmanship. The leaves of various palm species have been used for generations for roofs, baskets, ritual decorations, and also for artistic lamps.
In craftsmanship, the robust and flexible palm leaves are carefully selected, dried, and sometimes refined with special techniques – as in the case of the Pramana lamp, processed to a glossy surface. Their natural structure and warm coloring make them an ideal material for decorative light objects. Each individual piece carries the Balinese connection to nature and the passion of the artisans.

Insight into the Workshop
Terang Karya
When we visit the small workshop on the outskirts of Ubud, we are always warmly welcomed by Nyoman and his wife Ketut – two masters of their craft. With great skill and patience, they transform palm leaves into unique lamps.
“Look closely,” Nyoman often says with a mischievous smile as he shows how each leaf is carefully selected, dried, and shaped. Each piece is unique, with its individual grain and structure telling the story of nature.
The small family workshop may be modest, but with a lot of passion and skill, they create extraordinary works of art. When the evening sun shines into the open workshop and the warm light of their lamps fills the space, we enjoy sitting with them over a cup of tea. Our time in Bali becomes a bit brighter through these encounters – not only through the light but also through the people behind it.
Craftsmanship from Bali
Each Pramana lamp is lovingly handcrafted in Bali. The natural texture of the palm leaves and the individual processing lead to slight variations in shape, color, and surface. These variations are not flaws but expressions of true craftsmanship, making each lamp a
unique piece with special character and sculptural beauty.
