Matajiwa Buddha Eyes made of Albesia wood with Gold Yellow Structure and Mosaic, 40 × 20 cm
The
Matajiwa Buddha Eyes bring the peaceful atmosphere of Buddhist art into your living spaces. This special model interprets the traditional symbol with a vibrant, textured surface. The background impresses with a raised, gold-yellow radiating pattern reminiscent of a spiritual aura or ancient temple walls that tell mysterious stories.
The eyes are crafted from dark brown wood and finished with a light coating, highlighting the gentle contours and creating a harmonious contrast. Embedded mirror mosaics capture the light and reflect it like small points of light – sparkling thoughts in a quiet mind. On the wall, the wall object unfolds a calm presence that invites inner reflection and fills the space with an atmosphere of mindfulness.
Whether in the entrance area, above a meditation space, or as a centering element above the bed – with the approximately 40 × 20 cm large Matajiwa Buddha Eyes, you create a place of clarity and inner peace. The moderate size ensures a precise, conscious effect without overwhelming.
Matajiwa means "Eye of the Soul" in Indonesian and connects outer perception with inner wisdom. This artwork is an invitation to also direct the gaze inward.
The Symbolism of the Buddha's Wisdom Eyes
In Buddhist tradition, the eyes of the Buddha represent all-encompassing perception – past, present, and future. In many stupas, such as the famous Swayambhunath in Nepal, they gaze in all four directions and symbolize the compassionate wisdom of the Buddha.
Between the eyes is often a curved sign that resembles a question mark. It symbolizes the unity of all things and the only path to enlightenment through knowledge. The outer eyes perceive the world, while the third eye recognizes the truth beyond the visible – the
Dhamma.
Matajiwa, the "Eye of the Soul", reminds us of this connection between inner seeing, clarity, and insight. This artwork is more than decoration – it is a symbol of the journey from ignorance to the light of wisdom. The closed eyes invite a return inward, to quiet insight and letting go of external distractions.
Those who truly wish to see the world, close their eyes.
Traditional Wood Craftsmanship
Made from lightweight yet sturdy Albesia wood, each figure is hand-carved with great care. The dark glaze subtly highlights the natural grain and emphasizes the fine details. The clear form and meditative radiance of the Buddha eyes are created in workshops where the craft has been preserved for generations.

Vendor Info
Kayon Artisan
Sari, a vibrant powerhouse standing only 1.50 meters tall, creates her works just outside Ubud – however, her salesroom is located right in the city. Her shop is richly filled with Albesia and MDF artworks that impress with beauty despite their affordable prices. Our Buddha shoulders are particularly popular – actually the head of a Buddha, but due to the visible shoulders, they are referred to as such.
When Sari recognized us, she immediately offered us a discount – a great gesture! However, the journey there is often marked by a stubborn traffic jam that requires patience.
