Between the eyes, there is often a curved symbol resembling a question mark. It represents the unity of all things and the path to enlightenment through understanding. The term "Buddha shoulder" is rather colloquial, as it actually refers to the head of the Buddha, but since the shoulders are also visible, this name has become established.
