Stone processing has a long tradition in Bali. While temple statues are usually made of solid natural stone, artisans use the technique of cast stone for decorative objects like this lantern. This process allows for the creation of delicate and detailed patterns that bring the beauty of Balinese ornaments to life.
Particularly popular is the motif of the Frangipani flower (Balinese "Jepun"), which stands for beauty, purity, and spiritual renewal. The artistic reliefs are modeled by experienced craftsmen into molds and then cast with a mixture of natural stone, sand, and cement – often in several layers to ensure a perfect surface. Through the internal reinforcement, known as armoring, the material becomes particularly durable and resistant to cracks.
After curing, the fine hand finishing takes place, where details are worked out and unevenness smoothed. Some designs also integrate layered glass that captures light in a magical way and creates a special atmosphere.
Each piece is unique, shaped by the individual structure of the cast and the careful work of Balinese artisans. Thus, a decorative art object is created that brings tropical elegance to any garden.
