Ganesha – The Elephant God and His Significance
Ganesha is one of the most well-known and revered deities in Hindu belief. Particularly in India, he is seen as the patron of new beginnings, wisdom, and overcoming obstacles. His presence is also deeply rooted in Bali: he can be found in temples, but just as often in private spaces, at entrances, or on altars.
The most famous legend tells how Ganesha got his distinctive elephant head: Parvati, the goddess, created a son from clay to guard her home. When Shiva, her husband, unexpectedly returned and saw the boy at the entrance, he reacted in anger and struck off his head. To appease Parvati, his followers sought the first living being they encountered – an elephant – and placed its head on the boy. Thus, Ganesha was born, a symbol of wisdom, patience, and new beginnings.

Sari, a dynamic artist from near Ubud, creates numerous Albesia and MDF artworks in her workshop. Her store in the center of Ubud is known for diverse, affordable, yet high-quality carvings. Her Buddha heads, lovingly referred to as "Buddha Shoulders" because they also show the shoulders, are particularly popular.
During our last visit, we were warmly welcomed and even surprised with an immediate discount – a sign of genuine appreciation despite the often nerve-wracking traffic in Ubud.
