“Gajah” – A Symbol of Wisdom and Strength
Our elephant wall mask
Gajah captures the calm yet powerful aura of the elephant – an animal that holds special spiritual significance in Bali. The mask is hand-carved from solid Albesia wood, blending traditional craftsmanship with an expressive presence. The dark, warm wood finish is complemented by
delicate white dot ornaments that have been carefully applied by hand. Every detail, from the large, serene ears to the curved trunk, is precisely crafted, giving the mask a harmonious aura full of wisdom.
Gajah – The Protective Spirit of Bali
Although elephants are not native to Bali, they play a significant role in Balinese culture. As the mount of the gods and the embodiment of the wise god
Ganesha, the
Gajah represents luck, strength, and overcoming obstacles. An elephant mask here is more than mere decoration – it is considered a protective guardian that brings peace to the home, promotes prosperity, and wards off negative energies. Our
Gajah Elephant Mask brings this powerful symbolism into your home and reminds you of the deeply rooted values of this majestic animal.
Traditional Balinese Craftsmanship
The creation of this mask requires great attention to detail. After being carefully carved from Albesia wood, the mask receives a dark brown base coat that highlights the natural grain of the wood. Subsequently,
with much patience, white dots and lines are hand-painted to create the traditional patterns that adorn the forehead, ears, and trunk. This delicate dot painting gives the mask a unique, noble appearance.

Dealer Note
This mask comes from Wulan Wood Carving, a small family-run business led by an experienced Balinese artist for about 60 years. The workshop is located on the road to Bali's largest rice field and is known for its excellent wood carvings. Unfortunately, there is currently no succession – a valuable piece of Balinese craftsmanship that needs to be preserved.
Note on Handicraft
Each “Gajah” wall mask is a handcrafted
unique piece. The natural material wood and the traditional carving and painting techniques result in small, charming differences in shape, color, and pattern. These individual characteristics emphasize the authenticity and unique character of each artwork.
