Banyu Rindu Glass Bowl: Handcrafted Recycled Glass on Wood, Ø 10.5 cm
Natural Design Meets Balinese Craftsmanship
The Banyu Rindu Glass Bowl is a wonderful example of the artistic processing of recycled glass in Bali. Its name "Banyu," meaning water, perfectly describes the gentle shape of the glass, which wraps around the natural wooden base like a wave. The robust wood provides stability and gives the piece a warm, organic aura – typical of the traditional workshops in the Ubud region.
During a visit to a second-generation family business, I discovered these special bowls, crafted with great passion from recycled glass. The scent of wood, the heat from the glass furnace, and the soft crackling when the hot glass meets the wood make each piece something truly special.
Traditional Glass Blowing Technique
The special manufacturing process requires a lot of experience: The recycled glass is heated to over 1,000 degrees and carefully placed in its liquid state onto the wooden base. There, it adapts individually, flows, and cools down – thus each bowl is created as a unique piece.
The delicate turquoise tint, the fine air bubbles in the glass, and the curved shapes emphasize the natural beauty of the material. The wood, with its distinctive grain, fine cracks, and color nuances, tells its own story and makes each piece unmistakable.
