Air Manis Jug: A Work of Art with Character
The Air Manis Jug is much more than just a vessel – it unites Balinese craftsmanship with the beauty of nature. Made from blown glass poured onto a natural root, it creates a unique piece that never resembles another in form and structure.
Air Manis – The “Sweet Water” of Bali
The name Air Manis means “sweet water” in Balinese and describes the flowing elegance of this jug. In a meticulous process, hot glass is poured directly onto a gnarled root. The glass follows the natural contours and depressions of the wood before it slowly solidifies, taking on an organic, sculptural form. Each piece tells its own story.
Traditional Glass Melting in Bali – The Symbiosis of Fire and Wood
In Bali, craftsmanship is closely linked to nature. Melting glass on root wood is a fascinating craft that impressively reflects this connection. With much experience and sensitivity, the glass is heated to high temperatures until it becomes liquid. The glowing glass is then carefully poured onto the wood, where it follows the natural lines and adapts harmoniously. After cooling, the glass is ground and polished until it appears clear and radiant. This creates a work of art that captivates with its uniqueness.

Dealer Note
Manik Rupa
A special place with a moving history: The owner, probably around 70 years old, passionately keeps traditional Balinese glass art alive. Unfortunately, there are no successors, making the continuation of the manufactory uncertain. The artistically crafted glass objects, melted onto impressively large roots, fascinate with their connection of nature and craftsmanship – a combination that is hard to resist. We hope to be able to offer this unique art for a long time to come.
Note on Handcrafting
Each Air Manis Jug is completely handmade. Due to the use of natural materials and traditional melting techniques, slight variations in shape and color may occur – a true sign of authentic Balinese craftsmanship.
